Label TextThis item depicts a full bodied female torso wearing a necklace and a loincloth. This item is an example of the distinctive style of ancient west central Mexican clay art. The civilizations of ancient west central Mexico typically depicted both male and female bodies with wide torsos, for female figures they would make them have wide hips and for male they would have wide shoulders. This fragment gives us an insight to the standards of beauty in mesoamerican culture, note again the wide hips which could have been to symbolize a healthy woman who would be able to bear many children.
