Label TextThese two silk embroideries, decorated with cranes, clouds, festoons and other auspicious symbols, are part of a segmented cover for an armchair, probably made for a wedding. Red is a celebratory color for Chinese weddings, with brides today often opting for Western-style dresses in red. Cranes are symbols of longevity, since it was thought that they lived for a thousand years.
